On behalf of Special Olympics Washington, we invite to join the compassionate army of truck drivers on Saturday, September 26, 2009 for the World's Largest Truck Convoy! The Truck Convoy® is a national celebration of the trucking industry and its support of Special Olympics across America.
Truckers from Washington participate in this annual event by having our own Truck Convoy route escorted by law enforcement officers and endorsed by the Law Enforcement Torch Run Campaign to support Special Olympics. The Convoy will start in the morning at the Tacoma Dome and head north on I-5 to the Insurance Auto Auctions in Tukwila. A celebration including a picnic, barbeque, awards ceremony, prizes, a truck show and entertainment will be held to recognize participating truckers and sponsors.
Last year, the Washington State Truck Convoy had 200 trucks participate in the convoy and raised over $25,000 for local Special Olympics programs. Money raised from this event contributes to providing opportunities for more than 6,700 youth and adults with intellectually disabilities in the Washington State. Our programs give these athletes chances to strengthen their character, develop physical skills and fulfill their human potential. Special Olympics Washington is entirely free to participants; our programs are not federally funded and are only able to exist thanks to the generous support of businesses and individuals just like you.
