Please take a few minutes to read Joseph's story:
On October 14, 1984 at approximately 12: 30pm, a 6 lb. 14 oz. baby boy, Joeseph R. Stevens II, was born to Sylvia and Joseph Stevens. When he was awakened, he began to nibble on his hand...he was so precious and appeared to be normal. From the very first day, there were no signs that anything was wrong. Little Joseph began to walk at about 11 months old and was running, climbing, and pulling things off tables. Around 7 or 8 he began to show some signs of his illness. He was running funny and could not throw a baseball as far as other children his age. But we still had no idea he had something serious. At age 9, his coach and teacher at his school noticed him walking funny. He was not able to walk up steps without difficulty, so we were told to have him checked out. That was when we found out he had Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Over the years, our precious son got weaker. Joseph never complained. He was a very strong, courageous and determined young man. He always said everything is in God's hands. Joseph loved the Lord and that is what helped him through. Joseph told me that this disease stops right here. He did not want to see any other boys go through what he went through. Without Christ in our lives, we could not have handled this. Our son was called home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2003. The last words he said to me were, "I'm going to be alright." We love and miss him very much. Many thanks for your donation and support. Sylvia and Joseph Stevens P.S.
