I will be going to India from October 31-December 26.  The programs I am involved with include: Introduction to Traditional Medicine, and Infectious Diseases.

The introduction to Traditional Medicine program will give me the opportunity to learn about the traditional and indigenous systems of medicine in India. I will study the philosophies behind Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, and Reiki. In addition to learning about traditional medicine, I will learn how these practices may interact with Allopathic methods (aka Western medicine) and gain an understanding of the importance of cross-cultural competency in diagnosing patients who may be receiving a combination of modern and traditional treatments.

I will participate in community healthcare services and learn about the healthcare challenges facing the coastal and tropical Mumbai (Bombay), India. I will be able to rotate at some of the biggest infectious disease hospitals in India and see a variety of pathologies that I may never get the opportunity to see at home. The program combines clinical work at government hospitals with rotations in small primary care clinics and an opportunity to work in a rural area just outside the city. This program offers a holistic overview of the health care system of India with an emphasis on infectious disease.
