Year Five for Joggers for Joe!
While it's unfathomable to me that it's been five years since we lost Joe, it has been heartwarming to see the continual growth of the Joggers for Joe family over the past five years. From a team of 3 in our first year to 19 team members last year, we've been humbled by the tremendous support we've received in our efforts to do something in Joe's memory. I'd like to thank all of our friends and family members who have had made it a point to join us for at least one of the years...(especially those who have been there for three or more of the years!) Below there is a link to the last three years' team photos, if you'd like to check them out!
For those of you who never had the opportunity to meet my brother, you can learn a bit about him by checking out the website: www.inmemoryofjoe.org. While you'll have the opportunity to see my brother's art work, see some pictures, and learn more about depression, you won't get fun childhood stories hearing about how my brother and sister memorized the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie line by line or hear me complain about how Joe got the "good genes" like a fast metabolism, innate athletic abilities, and the ability to turn golden brown in the sun without having to go through the red, painful, sunburn stage first.
Over the years, Joggers for Joe has raised over $2,000 to help the Samaritan's prevent other families from experiencing the same devastating loss, raising awareness and working to reduce the stigma associated with suicide. We'd like to continue contributing to their necessary work--and need your help! If you can join us for the run (Please note: it's a run/WALK, so no need to be a runner here!), please do. If you can fundraise for your participation, even better! You can feel free to set up your own page, and donating through this site is simple, fast and secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support-- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Hope you can join us on Saturday, September 29!
Sincerely,
Katy, Gary, Marianne, and Jacky Sawyer
