...miles and miles of netherworlds I roam...
Hi, my name is Josh Andre and In May of this year, I will be setting out from the U.S./Mexican Border, turning north and walking until I hit Canada. I will be taking a 4 1/2 month trip on the Pacific Crest Trail, which traverses through California, Oregon and Washington.
While spending money on equipment and planning for the hike, I came to the realization that I must spend my resources and time for something more than just myself, and I began questioning whether I should continue with my plans. Africa had been on my mind and, after praying and exploring other options, I came across Worldvision's sports fundraising program, which helps raise money for those around the world who suffer from HIV/AIDS.
As you may know, Africa is the region hit hardest by HIV/AIDS, and it continues to spread due to misinformation and a lack of education. One of the results of the disease has been an exponential increase in orphaned children (15 million worldwide) and a vulnerable elderly population. B/c of a lack of human resources, the countries have sunk into poverty and suffer both food and water shortages.
Wolrdvision is a Christian organization that provides HIV/AIDS prevention education and care to over 60 countries with a special emphasis in Africa. Their program sponsors 800,000 children in Africa (2.4 million worldwide) and provides them with education, healthcare, shelter and and other basic needs. Furthermore, they also provide them with caregivers who address their personal, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs.
87% of each donation goes directly to those in need and each dollar does go a long way ($25 for food/medicine kit, $30 for basic healthcare, and much more) and any amount is appreciated. Donations on this site are secure, but I also encourage you to go to the worldvision.com home page to see all the ways they provide support. Whether you choose to give through Worlvision or through another source, please lend your support in some way to help ease the suffering of those in need.
