My personal message:

My Special Olympics Experience

By Curt Hill, Volunteer & Coach

My name is Curt Hill and I have been a Special Olympics coach for over six years. One of the main points of Special Olympics is to “Inspire Greatness” in our athletes and their families. I would like to briefly tell you my story on how I got involved with Special Olympics.

I got started with the program innocently enough. Late one afternoon I went to my neighborhood Subway store in Newhall on Lyons and got myself a sandwich for dinner. Next door, I noticed the office for Special Olympics. I went in the office and said, “What do you all do around here?” Ever since then, I’ve been involved as a coach for Special Olympics.

At this time of my life, I am able to give back to the community and Special Olympics provides a great way for me to do this. I have either played or coached sports for over fifty years including helping coach my son Kris’ little league team when he was younger. Currently I’m coaching Softball, Floor Hockey, Swimming for Special Olympics. I’m a year-round coach and love every minute of it.

Special Olympics is the most rewarding sports group that I have ever been involved with. Our athletes are passionate and dedicated to their sport and the high degree of teamwork and sportsmanship that they share is hard to compare to any other sports organization.

I am very passionate about our athletes and enjoy spending time with them whether it’s at a Special Olympics sports practice, competition or community event. I’ve become involved with  other initiatives with Special Olympics including our Athletes as Coaches program where we train athletes to become coaches to assist in mentoring other athletes and our Global Messenger program where I get to spend time with Athlete Mario Hidalgo and go to community events on behalf of Special Olympics.

All I can say is that I love what I am doing and I tell everyone about it.  If you'd like to speak with me about Special Olympics or the Solar Plunge, please give me a call at (818) 399-7105.

P.S. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
