Champaign County Humane Society
Providing shelter, medical care, and second chances
to homeless pets since 1951.
We are an independant, non-profit organization. We are not funded by any governmental body and we are not supported by any national humane organization.
Your donation will help fund our:
Shelter Operations
We take in approximatley 2,600 animals per year. Providing for their shelter and daily care requires a staff of 12 full time and 5 part time employees, and many more volunteers. Our building is over 20 years old and requires ongoing maintenance and repair.
Medical/Surgical Program
We have a full-time staff veterinarian. All dogs and cats are spayed/neutered before adoption. Many medical conditions are treated. Dogs are Heartworm tested and put on preventative.
We provide instruction and training to fourth-year veterinary students from the University of Illinois who select a Shelter Medicine rotation.
Humane Education
Our Humane Educator visits area classrooms and community groups to talk about humane treatment of animals, responsible pet ownership, pet overpopulation, and related topics.
Humane Investigations
Our licensed Humane Investigator responds to calls from concernced citizens regarding possible cases of animal neglect or cruelty.
Spay and Neuter Services
As a member of the Central Illinois Animal Welfare Coaltion, we are working with other agencies to provide monthly spay/neuter clinics that serve low-income cat owners in Champaign and Douglas Counties.
