About Amanda, written by her mother:  Amanda has overcome much in the last few years. In April of 2005, She had double spinal fusion surgery at the University of Minnesota and now uses an electric wheelchair full time. Besides, spinal fusion surgery, Amanda has had four other major surgeries since and has been in the hospital numerous times, including twice with meningitis.  She now requires breathing support while she sleeps and requires 24 hour care. But, despite everything, Amanda's mind is intact.  She has over come so much and yet, her sense of humor and her faith have not wavered.  Amanda is an inspiration to all who know her.  Amanda and countless other young adults with FA still hope and wait for a cure.
